Module 5: Accommodations for Communication Difficulties

Managing Work and Time (Planning and Scheduling)

An educator must plan lessons, keep to a semester-long and daily schedule, organize student grades, and maintain contact information.

Educators with communication difficulties generally will not have problems with these tasks, except possibly with being cued into time-related reminders (e.g., class bell).

Accommodation options may include:

General:

• Keep a clock or timer in clear view in the classroom.
• Use a visual alert (e.g., light flash) to signal class changes, alarm clock signals, etc.
• Use a tactile alert (e.g., vibrating watch) to signal class change or appointment times.
